2010 marked the 150th anniversary of Maineís largest 19th-Century tracker-action pipe organ, E. and G. G. Hookís magnificent Opus 288 at St. Johnís Roman Catholic Church in Bangor.

St. Johnís Organ Society is pleased to announce that Pierre Bardon, a celebrated French organist, will play a concert on the historic organ at St. Johnís on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.  In January, Pierre Bardon celebrated his 50th anniversary as titular organist of the historic organs of the Saint Mary Magdalene Basilica in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in Provence, France.  He is known worldwide as one of the great interpreters of French organ music.

Bardon will perform music of Johann Sebastian Bach and several French composers who were contemporaries of Bach:  Jean-Adam Guilain, Pierre Du Mage, and Nicolas De Grigny.

Biography of Pierre Bardon

As a young prodigy, Pierre Bardon first became known for his flute virtuosity, obtaining First Prize in Flute and in Chamber Music and a medal in Music Theory at the Paris Superior National Conservatory. He studied organ with RaphaŽl Fumet, and in 1952, he succeeded Jean Guillou at the Saint Serge Abbey organ, in  his native city of Angers.

Winner of the 1960 Aix-en-Provence Flute Professorsí competition, Pierre Bardon served as a faculty member at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatory and was named titular organist at the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine Basilica in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in Provence, France, home the Brother Jean-Esprit Isnard organ.  He celebrated his 50th anniversary in this role at the Basilica in January 2011.

Honored with the prestigious ďGand Prix du Disque,Ē Pierre Bardon has toured in Europe, Asia, and North America.
